Identity

Tryndamere is the barbarian king of solo queue, defined by his relentless split-pushing and immense carry potential. You should play Tryndamere if you enjoy a self-sufficient, high-damage playstyle that can single-handedly control the map. His straightforward kit offers the exhilarating feeling of turning fights with a few lucky crits, while his ultimate, Undying Rage, allows him to cheat death and emerge victorious.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Exceptional Mobility: Tryndamere is described as the highest mobility character in the game, able to stick onto targets using his E and generate even more mobility from auto attacks.

  • Insane Dueling Potential: Tryndamere'sTryndamere WW provides massive utility, reducing the Attack Damage of all nearby enemies while also slowing targets.

  • Unconditional Survival: His ultimate, R (Undying Rage), makes him immune to death for 5 seconds and can be activated even if he is stunned, knocked up, or suppressed.

Weaknesses

  • Vulnerable to Kiting: As a melee champion, Tryndamere is 'prone to being kited'.

  • Vulnerable to Stasis Effects: His ultimate cannot be activated if he is under a stasis effect (such as Zhonya's Hourglass, Stopwatch, or Bard's ultimate).

  • Relies on Battle Fury: His critical chance relies on maintaining Battle Fury, which is lost if he is not dealing or receiving damage.

Laning Phase

The laning phase is about accumulating gold and setting up kill opportunities through wave management and the threat of your all-in.

Farming

  • Focus on last-hitting minions and taking jungle camps between waves. Your items are expensive, so a constant gold income is crucial.

All-Ins

  • Even the threat of an all-in is often enough to deny the enemy minions and experience. Use this to your advantage.

Wave Management

  • Freezing the wave on your side of the lane can set up an all-in. Stacking and pushing the wave can create opportunities for a dive.

Team Fighting & Macro

Split Pushing vs. Team Fighting

When to Splitpush

You are very strong in a 1v1 scenario and can beat most champions. Going sidelane to splitpush applies a lot of pressure, forcing the enemy team to send multiple players to defend, which allows your team to fight with an advantage. Consider split-pushing when you don't have summoner spells, there are no objectives up, you can confidently dive the enemy sidelaner, the enemy team is heavy on CC or armor, or their base is vulnerable.

When to Teamfight

Despite being a great split-pusher, it's not always the correct play. Consider team fighting when the enemy team is low on CC and squishy, you have your summoner spells available, objectives are up, or your team has a better team fight composition.

Team Fighting

Flanking

Flanking is extremely strong on Tryndamere as you want to hit carries instead of the frontline. Try to approach the fight from another angle to access enemy carries easier and to make the enemy have to fight on two different fronts.

Target Selection

Selecting your targets well is crucial as you are on a timer due to your ultimate. While carries are the ideal target, sometimes they are too hard to access. In these cases, Tryndamere is very good at killing frontline targets. Hitting the frontline can also cause the enemy carries to walk forward, allowing you to quickly switch targets.

Tips & Tricks

Abilities

PassiveP
  • Tryndamere gains 5 fury per basic attack, 10 per critical strike, and 10 when killing an enemy. Attacking plants can also grant 5 fury.

QQ
  • At max level with full fury, Q can heal Tryndamere for up to 300 HP. Activating Q sacrifices the stored fury but grants immediate health.

WW
  • YourTryndamere WW ability will light up if an enemy champion is nearby, even if they are invisible. This allows you to scout dangerous brushes over walls.

EE
  • You can extend yourTryndamere EE range by flashing during your E animation, making the damage land where you land with your flash. You are also able to cast your autoattack instantly after. This is an excellent way to surprise the enemy with more range and a burst of damage at any stage of the game.

RR
  • You can press R even if you are stunned, knocked up, or suppressed. The only time you cannot press R is if you are in a stasis effect.

  • When diving an opponent under a turret and your ultimate is about to end, walk back into the turret shot to maximize the time available to move or heal before death.

  • If you have full fury when leaving turret range right after your ultimate expires, immediately use yourTryndamere QQ to gain a burst of health.
