Master Tier Champion Guide
Sett is the undisputed king of the pit, a powerhouse juggernaut who thrives in the heart of the brawl. You should play Sett if you enjoy an aggressive, in-your-face playstyle that dominates the early lane and scales into a formidable late-game threat. His simple-to-learn kit belies a high skill ceiling, rewarding players who master his auto-attack rhythms and the art of the perfect Haymaker. Sett is all about turning the tide of a fight, absorbing immense damage only to return it as a devastating blast of true damage that can obliterate squishy targets. If you want to be the frontline, the damage, and the playmaker who loves a good scrap, Sett is ready to get his hands dirty.
Sett is a potent Lane Bully and Snowballer who is 'Omega strong early' and capable of hyper scaling into the late game.
Sett's
W (Haymaker) allows him to unleash a massive true damage nuke. He also has high sustained DPS from his passive and auto-attack resets.
His ultimate (R) and E (Facebreaker) can be used to position and insec high-priority targets into his team or tower.
He is heavily immobile and needs to rely on Q, Stridebreaker, or Ghost to get on top of enemies.
He is very easy to kite, especially if he misses his E or W.
Sett has very high base cooldowns on his primary abilities (
W and E), which necessitates building ability haste.
Sett's laning phase is defined by abusing his passive sustain and the power of his W for short trades and leveraging level-up timers.
Sett has some of the longest base cooldowns in top lane. When W is on cooldown, you must play respectfully. When abilities are back up, play super aggressive.
Abuse level up timers consistently. Premoving on Level 6 is crucial: use E to stun the opponent, then ult immediately upon leveling up to secure the kill.
Skill W level one 90% of the time to proc Shield Bash and take a big, advantageous trade, especially when combined with Grasp. If the opponent is playing too aggressively into your side of the wave, skill E level one to pull them in.
Make the lane extremely volatile from the start. Use D-Shield and Second Wind to abuse Sett's extra regen, which allows him to benefit even if trades go slightly losing or even.
Aim for a two-wave crash or slow shove Wave 1 and then a wave three crash. A Wave 3 crash causes Wave 4 to bounce back near the center, allowing you to continuously trade.
Hullbreaker is situational, mainly built when snowballing or against champions who cannot deal with the cannon minion well (
E.g., Gragas, Rumble, Kennen). However, other high-level players dislike Hullbreaker early, stating it gives only row stats and is not worth building second because good players will defend against the split push, making the item useless.
Read the body language of the game. You need to be grouped up for major fights, even if you have Hullbreaker and could split-push. Sett is very good at diving and forcing tower destruction when ahead.
If running TP/Flash, use TP to secure map control and return to an objective fight after a proxy or base.
Take over your favorite bush by walking behind the opponent at Level 1 to make it uncomfortable for them to farm.
Sett is capable of initiating fights, often relying on Ghost or R (The Show Stopper). His R should be used to pick up an enemy tank (or high HP target) and ult him into his team.
Hold your
W until the last possible moment you can still auto attack. You do not want to stop your character's movement or miss out on DPS while charging your massive true damage.
Sett is All About Angles. When using R, you must find the perfect angle to ult the enemy into their team or into your turrets.
In fights around Baron or Dragon, Sett should be ready to fight literally everything that he can. He should avoid risking his team dying while he plays selfishly.
Default keystone, taken in matchups where Sett can force extended trades (e.g., Darius, Olaf). Provides the best 1v9 carry potential and grants Adaptive Force and life steal when fully stacked.
Taken against squishy champions (e.g., Yone, Yasuo) or in matchups where you start W level one. It is very easy to stack and now increases true damage.
Taken into matchups where Sett has to take short trades and cannot force extended trades, such as ranged matchups (e.g., Rumble) or champions who force short trades (e.g., Fiora).
Situational against range poke matchups where you need sustain (e.g., Smolder, Teemo, Vayne, Karma).
Auto Attack Reset (Most Crucial DPS)
Q
Q
QThe Q should instantly follow the second auto attack to cancel the attack animation and maximize damage output.
Lockdown/True Damage Nuke
E
WAlways combine your E (Facebreaker) with your W (Haymaker) to guarantee the true damage landing, even if they have Flash or a dash.
Ultimate Lockdown
R
W
After ulting an enemy, you can often secure the kill by holding W until the last second and then using W → Flash to snipe a squishy or finish a low-health target.
Surprise Cage/Burst (Advanced)
Q
E
Q
R
WYou can use Q for movement speed, flash E to stun, and then combo them, using the ultimate animation to chain CC the target.
Gieshu Special Combo (High-Risk Burst)

E
Q
QThis combo utilizes the element of surprise and the quick second punch to guarantee lethal damage, even if the enemy attempts to flash out.
WAll of Sett's damage scales on AD, and his W damage also scales heavily on HP. His W true damage increases the lower his HP is, relying on him fighting when he is low health.
When using W → Flash, flash at the last second of the W windup to make it nearly impossible for the enemy to react and flash out.
Q
Q (Knuckle Down) gives you a burst of movement speed, which is key for closing gaps and kiting.
EYou can cancel the animation of your
E by pressing E and then moving instantly after the animation finishes. This is useful for running away from immediate retaliation (e.g., against Jax E).
RIf an enemy has a Spell Shield (
E.g., Sivir, Nocturne), you can use Stridebreaker's active to break the shield, allowing you to land your ultimate or full combo without issue. R can also be used purely for a big chunk of damage and lane pressure, forcing the opponent out of lane.
PSett's second punch is faster and deals more damage than his first, which is why auto-attack resets are crucial.
Starting Items
Take Doran's Blade (Dblade) 80% of the time for heavy AD scaling and lane bullying. Take Doran's Shield (Dshield) into range matchups or specific short-trade matchups (
E.g., Fiora) where you need sustain.
First Item Rush
Rush Stridebreaker first 80% of the time, often building a Phage component first. Stridebreaker's active provides essential movement speed and an enemy slow, overcoming Sett's immobility.
Boots
Swifties are often preferred 80-90% of the time because they give the most movement speed and reduce the effect of slows by 25%, helping Sett stick to targets. Build Ninja Tabi against heavy AD auto attackers (Renekton, Yone, Yasuo). Build Mercury's Treads for tenacity against heavy CC, not primarily for Magic Resist.
Anti-Heal
If you need anti-healing, always buy Executioner's Calling; never buy Bramble Vest or Thornmail, as they are 'a complete bait item' and do not provide the necessary AD or HP.
