KSante

Master Tier Champion Guide

Identity

K'Sante's identity is that of a versatile tank who excels as the ultimate peeler, but can also dive the backline. While he is a shield for his team, his All-Out form allows him to be a formidable duelist. He is a strong blind pick because even in his losing matchups, he has the tools and counterplay to succeed.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Ultimate Peel and Front Line: K'Sante functions as the ultimate shield for his team, excelling at peeling off enemy divers (like Rakan or Irelia) and preventing the backline from being killed.

  • Strong Blind Pick Safety: He is one of the safest blind picks in the game because there is no matchup that is guaranteed to completely shut him down or gain a noticeable advantage against him.

  • High Survivability and CC Blocking: K'Sante is extremely mobile, especially with Ghost, and his W and R spells can be used to block incoming crowd control (CC).

Weaknesses

  • Vulnerable Early Game: At levels 1-3, especially when starting Doran's Shield, K'Sante can be punished severely or easily ganked if he overextends.

  • Squishy Ultimate Form: When using his ultimate (All-Out, R), K'Sante loses about half his HP and 80% of his resistances, making him significantly easier to kill.

  • Slow Tower Taking: K'Sante takes towers relatively slowly compared to other side lane champions (like Jax or Fiora), meaning pushing a side lane advantage purely for gold is not his primary goal.

Laning Phase

K'Sante's laning strategy depends heavily on the matchup type.

Item Spikes

  • Rush Iceborn Gauntlet as soon as possible, as the item is 'so broken' on him and provides a massive power difference.

  • In matchups with heavy healing (Fiora, Olaf, Renekton), an early Bramble Vest may be necessary.

Matchup Strategies

Vs. Bruisers/Carries (Gwen, Riven, Jax)

Prioritize short trades using Q → Auto → step away, avoiding extended fights. The general game plan is to freeze the wave outside your tower and look for solo kills post-Level 6 by 'scooping' the opponent under the turret using Q3, W, and R.

Vs. Ranged Lane Bullies (Vayne, Teemo, Jayce)

Avoid short trades, as they will out-trade you. The plan is to minimize damage taken and stay high HP until Level 6. If you are even on CS/XP and high HP at Level 6, you have massive windows to punish the ranged champion.

Vs. Tanks (Malphite, Ornn, Sion)

Do not focus on killing them, as their impact doesn't change much even if they are 0/10. Instead, play to blow open the tower with Demolish. Stack two waves together and look to proc Demolish often, especially after the 5-minute mark when the tower loses its tankiness.

Team Fighting & Macro

Macro

  • Side Lane Neutralization: K'Sante should use his side lane strength to neutralize the wave (push it past the midpoint or under the enemy tower) so he does not have to deal with it.

  • Rotation: After neutralizing the wave, immediately rotate to be a part of the next fight or skirmish (KSante EE.g., Herald or Dragon). You want to be a part of as many team fights and skirmishes as possible in the mid-game, as K'Sante takes towers very slowly.

  • Objective Positioning: Aim to play on the opposite side of the map from the next major objective (KSante EE.g., if Dragon is spawning, play Top/Bot). This forces the enemy to send champions to deal with your push, creating an advantage for your team at the objective.

  • Efficiency: After using R, you must recast R again to drop back into tank form. This is crucial because the R cooldown does not start ticking until you are back in tank form, and recalling in damage form is a waste of cooldown time.

Team Fighting

  • Primary Role: K'Sante's baseline role is to be the front line and peeler, allowing your backline to play the game. Do not primarily function as a diver or flanker.

  • Peeling Priority: Mark key enemy divers (KSante EE.g., Rakan, Diana, Talon) in your mind. Use yourKSante WW to block their engage or key spells (like Rakan W or Malphite R) to prevent them from reaching your carry.

  • Ultimate Timing: Do not use R early in the fight; start by peeling. Wait until the enemy team has committed their hard engage tools and your backline is safe. Once the primary threats are mitigated, pop R and dive onto the enemy backline yourself.

  • Outplaying Dives: Assassins like Zed or Talon are primarily built to kill squishies and cannot do much damage to K'Sante in his tank form. Utilize this to completely stop them from participating in the fight.

Tips & Tricks

Abilities

QQ
  • The speed at which K'Sante's Q comes out is increased by his bonus HP (up to a certain cap).

  • If you have the third stack of Q3 prepared, using your Ultimate (R) will make you lose that stack.

  • K'Sante can time his Q cast to be buffered through enemy CC (stuns or knock-ups), allowing him to get the Q off immediately after the CC ends.

  • Be aware that once K'Sante is in his ultimate form, his Q no longer slows the opponent.

WW
  • When casting W (Pathmaker), the direction of the dash and knockback is determined by where your mouse is pointing at the end of the channel, not the beginning.

  • After using W, K'Sante often stops auto-attacking; you must manually right-click the opponent to ensure continued damage.

EE
  • K'Sante's E (dash) grants extra range and the ability to cross thin walls when dashing to an allied target (minion or champion).

RR
  • K'Sante can use his Ultimate (R) channel to block incoming crowd control, such as Mordekaiser's R.

  • When K'Sante is in his R form, he can dash over terrain with E without needing an allied target.
