Matchup depends on RenektonRenekton skill. If they are very good and understand the matchup, it becomes VERY difficult for you. Luckily most Renektons won't be good until GM. His WRenekton W shreds your WAmbessa W, which you heavily rely on. If this is in the lower MMR, then this matchup honestly becomes like a 5. Reality is, if he's good, you will lose lane, and lose carry potential, but you can still play safe and play for teamfights.

You heavily outscale him. GraspGrasp is fine for this matchup.

  • Cheese Strat: Rush brambleBramble Vest vestBramble Vest.

  • Play around his Rage, remember that it deletes your WAmbessa W shield. Otherwise if he doesn't have empowered WRenekton W, you should win trades. Lv 1 you need to out space him with QAmbessa Q.

  • Best to take WAmbessa W second as he can take ERenekton E, and if so you need to abuse this window, but otherwise he may take WRenekton W to counter your WAmbessa W, in which case you space with QAmbessa Q. This varies based on his rage, but when he ERenekton E's forward with half a bar of rage, immediately dash away with QAmbessa Q. He will be forced to walk back with EAmbessa E on CD, or he uses his rage to chase you, in which you can safely use WAmbessa W to block and punish him. Remember he can always instantly gain rage through his ultimate.

Similar to the Mordekaiser matchup. Dodge his W pull at all costs or you lose trades. You die to him once, he perma snowballs over you.

(Post nerfs to Zaahen, the matchup has become much easier)

  • Level 1 you need to space his Q with your QAmbessa Q which should always outrange him.

  • You want to force short trades with him as much as possible, absorbing as much damage as you can from his Q's with your WAmbessa W. If you are spacing him correctly, he should only ever be able to hit you with one of his two Q's, as he shouldn't be able to auto you without using his E or W.

  • The most important thing is to dodge his W when you are disengaging, whether by dashing or sidestepping it, otherwise you will lose the trade.

  • If he attempts to all in you with his ult, you can guarantee your own ult on him to disengage immediately after he lands.

  • He wants to be sustaining himself on the wave with his Q, it won't heal him much until he has several points in it but later on, zone him off the wave if you can.

Basic Idea: Get on top of him, invade his personal space, and save a spell for dodging his 3rd QAatrox Q. Later levels post 6, and especially level 9, you have to be careful lest he all ins you with his shorter CDs, like Riven. But as long as you keep your CD's up and play with them, you win.

Keep baiting his QAatrox Q's without getting hit. Dodge to the side to avoid his Q1Aatrox Q, predict his EAatrox E forward or back. His EAatrox E is your main CD to keep track of after QAatrox Q. IMPORTANT: DON'T GET DASHES CANCELED BY HIM. It may even be worth it to intentionally take a QAatrox Q hit then using your dash to escape his WAatrox W. Also buy boots early. Helps a ton escaping his WAatrox W from the side, Tier 2 boots can straight up run out of his WAatrox W.

  • Dodge his Q1Aatrox Q, dash around him to avoid Q2Aatrox Q sweet spot, and kite his Q3Aatrox Q with your QAmbessa Q dashes.

  • Skill matchup in your favor due to your dashes but if you mess up he will end you.

  • Beware that he can very easily cancel your dashes, so when you WAmbessa W into him, you need to either react Faker fast or do it predictively. If he misspaces you can EAmbessa E into QAatrox Q and use WAmbessa W.

  • The most important CD to keep track of is his EAatrox E. Bad AatroxAatrox players will waste EAatrox E forward, and use Q3Aatrox Q early. Good Aatrox players are much more difficult and punishing, and may hold Q3Aatrox Q for lower QAatrox Q CD.

  • Many Aatrox players will try to poke you down with Q1Aatrox Q EAatrox E. Predict this and sidestep or QAmbessa Q backwards, then punish him. If he oversteps, just EAmbessa E into him for short combo, and QAmbessa Q sideways or out depending on his EAatrox E.

Practiced a lot against Palco. Can be a tough lane if they know what they are doing. Careful about getting silenced and ulted by him in teamfights. You are generally stronger in lane but pre-rework, he outscales.

  • Always WAmbessa W his QGaren Q.

  • Lv 1 depends on his runes. If he takes ConqConqueror, respect his EGaren E lv 1, you can WAmbessa W and match a bit. If he takes Phase RushPhase Rush, you can probably expect QGaren Q lv 1. Take WAmbessa W to play it safe, or ego with QAmbessa Q spacing.

  • ALWAYS make sure your WAmbessa W is up to match his QGaren Q, otherwise you should never be getting hit by his EGaren E.

  • Another good trick is WE out from his QE combo, instant EAmbessa E after your WAmbessa W before his QAmbessa Q hits, you can cancel WAmbessa W dash. His silence doesn't cancel your dash after your ability is already cast. Engage when his WGaren W is down or QGaren Q & EGaren E are down.
