Master Tier Champion Guide
Vladimir is the quintessential late-game mage, a champion whose power fantasy is rooted in surviving a deliberately weak early game to become an unstoppable force of nature. You should play Vladimir if you enjoy a high-stakes, scaling playstyle that trades early pressure for the promise of god-tier team fight dominance. His manaless nature and built-in sustain allow him to outlast opponents in extended laning phases, while his simple kit lets you focus on the macro-level strategy required to reach his devastating power spikes. If you have the patience to weather the early storm, Vladimir rewards you with the ability to single-handedly win fights and take over games, making him a terrifying presence in any match that goes the distance.
Late-Game Carry Potential: Vladimir is excellent in late-game teamfights where he can 'absolutely pop off'. He snowballs well and can potentially 'take over the entire game' if he secures a few early kills.
Mana Independence and Sustain: Vladimir does not use mana, which is a major strength when the laning phase is extended against champions who rely on mana. This allows him to potentially out-trade and out-pressure opponents over time.
Flexible Itemization: Vladimir has quite flexible build paths, allowing him to adapt his item choices depending on the amount of gold he bases on and the game state.
Vulnerable Early Game: For the entire early portion of the game, Vladimir is disadvantaged and must play to minimize the opponent's pressure.
Lack of Utility/Low Range: He suffers from low range, low waveclear, no CC (Crowd Control), and no setup for ganks.
Difficulty vs. Skilled Opponents: He can be extremely hard to navigate when facing good mid opponents in high ELO who understand how to utilize wave manipulation, roaming, and pressure.
Vladimir's laning phase is all about survival and resource management, aiming to extend the early game as long as possible to leverage his manaless advantage.
The mindset must be 'minimize, minimize, minimize'. You cannot play super aggressively.
Due to low early waveclear, Vladimir will almost always be pushed into his turret.
Your goal is to walk the tightrope: you cannot play too defensively (or the enemy will roam and destroy side lanes), nor too aggressively (or you will heavy trade when you are weak). You must constantly push your limits to find that niche line.
Prioritize CS: Vladimir is an extremely item reliant champion, making last-hitting absolutely crucial, especially in the early game.
Extend the Lane: The primary objective is to extend the duration of the pre-first base laning phase as long as possible. This helps Vladimir leverage his manaless state against mana-using opponents.
If you can afford a Needlessly Large Rod, you should prioritize buying it.
If you base on around 900-1000 gold, buying Fiendish Codex (for AP and CDR) is highly recommended. The gold you base on should dictate your flexible item path.
Thin the Wave: Focus on thinning the wave as much as possible to prevent the opponent from getting a hard shove and ditching the wave to roam.
Empowered Q (Threat Tool): Use the third, empowered Q as a threatening tool to zone the enemy. Walk up aggressively when it is ready to force the opponent to choose between taking damage or missing CS.
Recall Matching: If the enemy recalls, try to match their recall timing to prevent them from returning to lane with refreshed resources and gaining a huge tempo advantage.
Protect Flash: Do not blow your Flash in the early game, as it is crucial for increasing your all-in threat by 'a hundred times' once you hit level six.
In the mid-to-late game, Vladimir should look for opportunities to flank the enemy backline, especially around objectives like Dragon or Baron.
You must compensate for Vladimir's simple kit by using creativity and forethought in your positioning to secure favorable fights. Ping your ultimate cooldown and path to a side lane to prepare for a flank before the objective fight begins.
Split-pushing a side lane draws enemy pressure. If enemies collapse, you can often escape and delay them (dragging two people to a side lane creates a 4v3 advantage for your team).
Breaking the mid-tower is very beneficial as it allows Vladimir to shove the enemy mid laner back, putting a 'chain around her neck' and enabling him to move into side lanes more easily.
Before engaging, constantly assess your threat level: 'Do I have ultimate? Do I have flash? Do I have ignite?'. Without these tools, Vladimir is essentially a 'sack of potatoes' and should avoid high-risk engagements.
Target immobile backline carries. Always check enemy items for Stopwatches, Zhonya's, or Hexdrinkers before committing an all-in combo.
If an immobile enemy carry blows Flash (like Miss Fortune), immediately take responsibility to time that Flash cooldown, as knowing they lack mobility drastically improves your threat in the next fight.
Without Flash, it is extremely difficult to play front-to-back due to enemy self-peel (
E.g., Thresh, Jarvan). If a flank is impossible, you may have to reluctantly play front-to-back.
R E W
R
E
WThe most effective team fight combo. Cast R first to amplify damage, followed instantly by releasing E and activating W. This sequence is super quick, hits everyone, and minimizes vulnerability before Vladimir enters his untargetable pool.
R Q E W

Q
E
WCast R, then Q, then E W. The Q here adds single-target damage. It is important that R is always cast first. Used for 1v1 duels where the risk of being CC'd is low.
Q E W
Q
E
WThe core non-ultimate combo. Activating Q at the beginning is crucial because the time spent in the untargetable pool (W) allows the Q cooldown to drop, potentially allowing a second Q upon exiting the pool.

R Q W
R
Q
WA very niche combo used primarily as an execute when the E ability is on cooldown. QW can be used to cancel the Q animation.
QAbuse Last Hitting: Land your
Q when enemies walk up to last hit your minions.
Utilize Red Q Movement Speed: Use the movement speed gained from an Empowered Red Q to close the gap quickly on opponents.
Bait Q Usage: Bait opponents into thinking you will use Q to farm a minion, but instead, last hit with an auto-attack and save Q for a trade.
Optimal Trade Timing: If an enemy is about to hit you with a damaging spell, wait until their spell connects before using your
Q to instantly heal back part of the damage.
Extended Trade Staging: If you anticipate an extended fight, ensure you start the trade with one Q stack to guarantee your second Q will be the Empowered Red Q.
Jungle Sustain: Use your Empowered Red Q on jungle camps to maximize healing.
Both charging E and activating W slow down the decay rate of the Empowered Q bar. This trick can be used to maintain the Red Q state for a longer period.
W
W Healing Management: You can heal back a significant amount of the cost by making sure you activate W underneath an enemy champion, minions, or jungle camps.
W as Peel: The W slow is very useful for peeling for teammates or yourself.
Movement Speed Utility: The W ability grants Vladimir movement speed, which can be used to chase and all-in a target.
Turret Diving Safely: Later in the game, it is often better to tank a single turret shot and save W to maintain safety from potential ganks.
EValue Assessment: Since E costs HP, only use it when you get high value, like trimming a full wave or trading when the opponent has key abilities on cooldown.
Wiggle/Flash Bait: When preparing an E Flash combo, bait their reaction by faking an engage before committing.
RLane Dominance: If you cannot kill a safe opponent, use R preemptively to win a favorable trade and keep them low.
Maximize Survival Healing: When ganked, wait until multiple enemy champions are grouped before using R to maximize the healing.
Phase Rush Escape: The initial R application counts as a spell for Phase Rush. Use R early during an escape to quickly proc Phase Rush.
Creativity is Key
Vladimir's mechanical difficulty does not lie in his simple abilities but in being creative with their use and combos to make the champion versatile.
