Master Tier Champion Guide
Aurora is a versatile mage assassin who excels at skirmishing and controlling the map with her high mobility. You should play Aurora if you enjoy a skill-expressive champion who can adapt her build between burst and DPS, and loves to make plays around the map with her jungler. Her kit is designed around a 'shove and move' playstyle, using her powerful wave clear to create opportunities for roams and river skirmishes where she can dominate with her ultimate. Mastering Aurora requires understanding how to leverage her mobility to navigate fights, playing around her ultimate's high skill cap, and knowing when to play for skirmishes rather than solo kills in lane.
Versatile build paths (burst or DPS)
Well-rounded and effective at most aspects of the game
Excels in 2v2 river skirmishes
High mobility and slippery
Struggles with range
Unlikely to secure solo kills in the early game
Reliant on her jungler to make plays
Aurora generally wins these lanes due to her ability to easily kite them with E and W, and punish their limited range. Stand your ground in these trades to maximize passive regeneration.
These lanes are hard 1v1 matchups.
• Comet/
E-Max is recommended.
• The strategy is to neutralize the 1v1.
• Use aggressive baiting (tethering) to force their key abilities (like Syndra E). Once their defensive cooldowns are used, Aurora can jump in for a quick trade.
• Avoid getting stuck under the tower and harassed, as this makes the lane very difficult.
Champions that can reveal Aurora in her W (
E.g., Karma, Twisted Fate, Fiddlesticks) are extremely difficult, as they negate her primary defensive tool.
The main goal is to reach the Level 6 + Lost Chapter wave clear breakpoint, which allows Aurora to one-shot caster minions with Q and E.
Slow Push: Build a slow push into melee matchups to maximize lane length for trading and ensure a strong crash for a reset.
Shove and Move: After reaching the breakpoint, hard shove the mid-wave (takes about 3 seconds) and then move to the side of the map where the next neutral objective (Grubs/Dragon) is located.
Prioritize the Jungler: Always try to play toward your jungler's side of the map, even if the other side looks appealing, to ensure a favorable 2v2 skirmish.
Aurora excels in the mid-game through aggressive roaming and high-impact ultimate usage in fights.
Aurora is extremely weak without her ultimate (R), and players should avoid committing to major fights when it is down.
Use Aurora's mobility and W invisibility to find flank angles from the fog of war. Flanking allows Aurora to overwhelm the enemy's mental stack and hit squishy targets.
Focus on catching immobile AD carries (like Jinx or Varus, who lack dashes/self-peel) on the mid-lane wave after shoving it, as they are extremely vulnerable targets.
Identify whether Aurora needs to be the primary engage or the secondary engage. It is often safer and more effective to wait for teammates to initiate and follow up.
Focus on the squishiest targets in the enemy backline. Aurora's primary win condition is securing a reset (kill/assist) on a low-health target, which immediately refreshes her W.
Place the ultimate (R) to slow multiple enemies and block choke points. If the enemy flashes out of the R, it is still a small victory, as they are removed from the immediate fight.
Use W/
R mobility to reposition and guarantee the Q recast (true damage) hits the intended target.
• If the target is tanky or building MR (like Jinx building Hexdrinker), the engagement must be more surgical, or Aurora should prioritize peeling for her own strong AD carry.
• Weaving in auto attacks is important to maintain passive regeneration and maximize damage, especially in extended fights.
Quick Burst (QEQ)
Q
E
QThis is cast almost simultaneously to quickly proc Electrocute and disengage.
W Engage
W
Q
E
QW (towards the target to proc Sudden Impact) → Q → E → Q.
Ultimate Setup
R
Q
ER is used to apply the heavy slow, guaranteeing the follow-up Q and E hits. R is also crucial for repositioning to ensure the true damage Q recast hits.
PHitting with three abilities/attacks grants damage and high health regeneration. Standing your ground in a trade is unintuitive but highly effective to maximize passive usage.
QThe return path (Q2) deals true damage based on missing health. To guarantee hits, time Q with enemy auto attacks/last hit animations when they are standing still. Q can be thrown at minions and redirected on the recast to hit the enemy.
WDash grants invisibility and movement speed. It resets on takedowns (kill or assist). Use W from fog of war to approach enemies without being noticed. The invisible travel inside the ultimate (R) is highly effective.
ESlows the target and knocks Aurora backward, providing a disengage tool during a trade. Can be used to make short jumps over small walls. Chaining E with Q (QEQ) is a common quick trade.
RThe zone slows the initial target, and subsequent entry/exit slows them further. Use R primarily as a repositioning tool or to guarantee other abilities. R can be buffered through CC (stun/knockup) for an escape or engagement. Use W to travel invisibly within the R zone.
