Master Tier Champion Guide
Akshan is a highly mobile, skirmish-focused AD marksman who excels at influencing the map through relentless roaming. You should play Akshan if you enjoy a high-tempo, proactive playstyle that revolves around creating advantages for your team across the map. His kit is designed for aggressive early-to-mid game dominance, using his E (Heroic Swing) for unparalleled mobility in fights and his W (Going Rogue) camouflage to set up powerful ganks. Mastering Akshan requires a deep understanding of map awareness to identify roaming timers, precise mechanical skill with his swing, and careful positioning to compensate for his low attack range.
Early Skirmishing Power: Akshan is strong in the early game, rarely losing 1v1s or 2v2s. His kit, particularly his E (Heroic Swing), allows him to dominate early 3v3 skirmishes around objectives or side lanes about 90% of the time.
Roaming Potential (Strongest Trait): Roaming is identified as Akshan's single strongest characteristic. His W (Going Rogue) provides camo, enabling strong ganking and roaming power. Shoving a wave and immediately using W allows him to sit on the mid wall, creating immense map pressure and priority that most mid laners cannot match.
Fast Shoving: Akshan is one of the fastest, if not the fastest, wave clearers in the game (tied with champions like Ekko). Once he has his first item and levels, he can clear a wave in about 3 seconds, allowing him to impact the map quickly.
Teammate Revive (Passive): His passive ability to resurrect teammates is a strength, but it should not be the primary focus for playing the champion.
Low Mobility: Aside from his W (Camo) and E (Heroic Swing), Akshan lacks mobility. His positioning must be crystal clear to ensure he can use his E both to engage and disengage.
Low Range: Akshan has low attack range (500) and low ability range (
Q is relatively low, R is terrible). This compounds his positioning weakness.
Feast or Famine: Akshan is highly feast or famine. If he falls behind, he struggles more than champions like Katarina, as he lacks the damage to secure resets and often dies when attempting to jump in.
Gated by Composition: Akshan struggles heavily against specific enemy team compositions, particularly those with strong self-peel (
E.g., Xayah, Rakan), heavy CC, or powerful tank frontlines (e.g., Malphite). There are games where Akshan "cannot play the game" due to the enemy draft.
Forces Full AD Comps: Playing Akshan mid lane often forces the team into a full AD composition, as Top, Jungle, and ADC often pick AD champions.
Akshan is strong early; having an early death throws away his advantage and is considered a critical error.
Auto the minions more than the enemy to hit Level 2 first. This is your first major power spike, and you should leverage it for trades.
Akshan's
E provides great escape tools. Placing a Raptor Ward every game and hovering the side opposite the enemy jungler minimizes the chance of being ganked, as you can easily use E to escape.
Utilize the short trade combo (
Q > Auto > Auto). Harassing the enemy is generally more valuable than securing single CS.
In tougher or skill matchups (
E.g., against Irelia or Yasuo), let the wave naturally push toward your side of the lane. Freezing the wave near your tower creates a long lane that is "Pixel Perfect positioning" for Akshan, allowing easy gank setup and maximizing his E swing angles.
Akshan's entire macro game revolves around his roaming and fast shove identity.
Akshan should play as a Roamer. Do not panic if you don't get solo kills; winning comes from impacting the map and putting the enemy team behind.
From the mid-game (roughly Level 9/First Item), Akshan should constantly hard shove the wave (takes about 3 seconds).
After shoving, use W to go camo. The enemy mid laner will be forced to ping missing, and they cannot track you. Use this time to rotate to side lanes or jungle fights. Even if you don't get a kill, wasting the enemy's time or creating a man advantage is valuable.
Late game starts around 20 minutes onwards. Akshan's goal is to draw pressure by going to a side lane, shoving it out as far as possible, which forces the enemy to send someone to match.

Once the enemy is "pinned" to the side lane, rotate to the objective or mid lane. This rotation (side-to-mid, mid-to-side) creates a number advantage (
E.g., a 5v4) for your team in team fights.
In very late-game scenarios (40+ minutes), you may need to sack side lanes and stick closer to your teammates to be available to utilize the Res passive if they die. Use your camo (W) to look for stealthy flanks.
Standard Lane Trade Combo
QThis is the most practical combo for trading in the laning phase, aiming to proc the passive shield and run out quickly.
Max Damage Trade Combo
QThis combination is designed to proc the passive three times for maximum burst damage.
W Auto-Attack Engage Combo
W
QUse W to go camo, then throw Q > Auto > Auto. If the enemy is walking toward Akshan while he is in camo, the distance is closed significantly, resulting in a nearly guaranteed Q hit.
The Only True Combo (R/E)
R
EThis allows Akshan to fire his R bullets while simultaneously swinging and firing his E bullets. This requires precise timing (casting E right as the R begins) to waste animations and deal maximum damage.
E Flash Combo
E
This is valuable for finishing off targets that flash away from Akshan, allowing him to cancel his E swing early and continue dealing damage.
PThe second auto extends Akshan's range significantly, which is valuable for hitting targets running from max range. Practice efficiently cancelling the passive and walking to maximize kiting and movement speed.
The passive procs off of every single ability, including Q, E, and R. Do not rely on looking for the shield to decide if you should go in.
QGrants movement speed on both the outbound and inbound hits. Extends its range for every unit hit.
WHugging a wall maintains the camo duration. Running toward a Scoundrel grants movement speed and mana. At max level, W has a very low cooldown (1.74 seconds) and zero mana cost.
EMastering E requires practicing drawing a perfect circle to maximize traversal and damage. When out of range of a target, right-clicking cancels the swing and fires the final shot, creating distance; clicking into the enemy maximizes the final shot damage and maintains range. Missing E or using it poorly results in significant lost damage.
RDeals more damage based on missing health.
