Get to Black Cleaver before she gets Divine Sunderer. Your ultimate (R) must be used to counter her ultimate (R).
General Strategy
Illaoi is one of the hardest matchups because she is a great sustainer and only wants to fight when she lands E (Test of Spirit). Play around your tower and request jungle support before level six. If Illaoi starts split-pushing, play for the map first, then return to top, focusing on hidden objectives rather than trades, as you shouldn't be expected to win the split.
Trading Patterns
You must look for aggressive trade windows when she misses E. If Illaoi R's, she gains displacement immunity, but she is not Unstoppable. If you land your E on Illaoi as she is going into the air for R, she will be stunned, but not flipped. Shoot your ultimate (R) forwards or behind you (wherever she will land). When she ults, disengage as fast as possible unless she is low enough to die. Be mindful: she wants to be low HP (around 30%) when she ults because it spawns more tentacles and increases her healing.
Wave Management
Killing tentacles as they spawn is optimal.
Their Win Condition
Illaoi wins by landing E. She relies on Conqueror and nearby tentacles to win trades. Her ultimate burst healing (R) is her primary threat when low HP.
