Riven Win Condition

Riven's primary goal is to secure early level priority, specifically reaching Level 3 and the Level 6 ultimate timer first. Achieving this priority often involves playing aggressively for lane control. A key fundamental play is utilizing the Level 6 timer: Riven should kill Mordekaiser to stack her Conqueror, ensuring she hits Level 6 before him.

Once Riven has a significant advantage, such as being "five levels on their AKs," her win condition shifts from constantly engaging and killing the weak enemy ("Z4 more kaiser") to translating that lead across the map. This involves pushing out the top wave, resetting, and then moving to influence the mid lane, jungle, or bot lane. Riven must also aim to be an exceptional farmer to maintain her resource advantage.

Mordekaiser Win Condition

Mordekaiser's success relies on enduring Riven's early pressure while retaining his ability to fight, particularly if he manages to keep his Conqueror stack ("conk"). Mordekaiser wins if Riven secures solo kills but fails to gain the maximum experience reward, which can happen if an allied champion is present nearby, "steals my solo kill exp by being in the presence". Furthermore, Mordekaiser wins the macro game if he refuses to surrender ("He won't FF") and Riven fixates on continually killing him in the top lane instead of resetting and spreading her overwhelming advantage to other areas of the map.

General Strategy

The core strategy is built on early aggression and intelligent resource management. Riven should play for priority and may even consider the "greedy bastard" play of proxy farming the wave early to ensure she hits key level advantages first. In terms of itemization, Riven should aim to acquire Eclipse around the 1325 gold mark.

After dominating the lane, the main strategic pivot is macro play: Riven must push out the top wave, reset, and pivot to other lanes, as repeatedly killing an already neutralized Mordekaiser will not change the outcome of the game. For skill progression, Riven should consider putting a second point in Riven WW (Ki Burst) around level eight. Finally, Riven should be aware that if she leaves the Death Realm (Mordekaiser's ultimate) while a turret shot is tracking her, the turret shot may be canceled.

Trading Patterns

Successful trading against Mordekaiser requires timing and mechanical execution. Riven should primarily engage when Mordekaiser'sMordekaiser WW (Indestructible) is on cooldown. A strong engagement technique is the Flash Riven WW combo, which stuns him immediately, leaving Riven with her full rotation of Riven QQ charges available to continue the trade.

When using Riven QQ (Broken Wings), Riven must use her mobility to anticipate his movements or flash position to "get close and break his neck". Against his defensive rune, Bone Plating, a controlled sequence should be utilized: Q1, Q2 (to avoid triggering Bone Plating unnecessarily), and then finishing the trade with Q3 on top of him. Throughout the trade, Riven must employ high mechanical execution to cancel all of his auto attacks.

Wave Management

Riven must manage the wave to secure priority, allowing her to reach Level 3 first. Cannon waves are particularly important as they grant a crucial 200 gold. Riven needs to understand and correct the formation of "bleeding sidewaves". A bleeding sidewave is defined as a wave that is slow pushing away from Riven's current location, which is "not a good thing".

This undesirable push often happens when Riven's team is collectively ahead in experience and turrets (Riven EE. g. , having five turrets when the enemy has three), causing Riven's minions to automatically push toward the enemies. If Riven finds a sidewave that is "cooked" (slow pushing away), she must prioritize fixing this wave first before moving to other objectives or lanes.
