Chogath Win Condition

Your path to victory relies heavily on long-term scaling, as Cho'Gath's late game inherently out-scales Sylas because yourChogath WW, the silence, messes with him so hard. The core win condition is transitioning into team fights where your crowd control (CC) completely shuts Sylas down. If you must win the lane 1v1, this is achieved by rushing an Oblivion Orb or a Negatron Cloak and prioritizing max W to slowly poke him down.

Sylas Win Condition

Sylas succeeds by exploiting volatility and mobility in a lane that snowballs "really hard". He wins if he can successfully disrupt you by stealing your ultimate (R). He benefits if you are isolated because you are really vulnerable in the side lane—it's hard to run away from multiple members, and it's also hard to chase him down. Furthermore, it is noted that it is "really easy for him to gank you," making your positioning precarious.

General Strategy

For runes, Hail Blades is basically required because if Sylas jumps on you, you need to be able to trade back hard, as Grasp is too slow for Cho'Gath in this specific matchup. For the rest, stick to standard runes like Cheap Shot, Ultimate Hunter, and Axiom Arcanist, which is core for ultimate damage. For Summoner Spells, Ignite is actually the best option, allowing you to one-shot him pre-six (at half health or less) and post-six (from like 75% health); however, due to the lane's volatility, Teleport (TP) is fine for a more consistent lane phase.

If you died early and are behind, it is fully viable to acquire an early Negatron Cloak and just sit on it to be less vulnerable after the first base. If you are ahead, simply rush Shurelya's (Zhonya's) ASAP like normal. The most consistent strategy after Level 6 is to get boots and roam, interacting with him as little as possible, as it is hard to gank Sylas but easy for him to gank you.

Trading Patterns

At Level 1, start Chogath EE and look to walk up and hit minions. If he tries to trade on you, you just take the trade because you should always win it with three Hail Blades E Autos. Your trading advantage is maintained by using E to push virtually every single wave, which ensures you are constantly healing up via your passive. Maintain a higher health bar than him so he cannot turn hisSylas WW heal into an all-in attempt.

When using yourChogath QQ, always stand in the bushes to make it "way harder to dodge," even with Sylas'sSylas EE. After your first base, you generally don't have the damage to kill Sylas with Chogath RR unless you rushed Oblivion Orb, so spam R to start stacking ASAP on minions and grubs. Later on, you can start chunking Sylas in bushes after he full combos a wave, especially using Chogath EE, as this creates a window where you can often kill him or hard chunk him.

Wave Management

Start Chogath EE at Level 1 and push to get Level 2 first, which is really important for an early HP and level advantage. You must use E to push virtually "every single wave" because this consistently utilizes your passive to heal while ensuring you maintain a level advantage. If roaming is not an option, simply collecting waves under the turret and farming is also totally fine. If you have a jungler that can effectively set up for yourChogath QQ, you can try to hold your ultimate for ganking; otherwise, spam your ultimate to get stacks.
